Vintage and Handmade Market

On Saturday 4th December, for one day only, Storey Gallery and 'Not Just Vintage UK' are hosting a Vintage and Handmade Festive Market. The beautiful Victorian gallery, known for its challenging programme of contemporary visual art, will shed its usual thought-provoking persona in favour of a set of pink and glittery festive lights.

The twenty-five stallholders, from vintage sellers to artists, designers, and makers, will provide a unique festive shopping experience for those of you who like to find that little something different. Under one gorgeous glass roof you will find handmade festive decorations and jewellery; shoulder bags made from vintage tweeds; liberty fabric baby booties; gorgeous vintage gowns, gloves, scarves and ephemera; original artwork; cushions and a variety of handmade home wares ... all unique, handmade and lovingly selected.

Amongst these handmade and vintage goodies we also have several stalls offering something very different. Poets Sarah Hymas and Rebecca Irvine Bilkau are running a stall called ‘Tailor-made Poems for Stuck Santas’. The pair will be offering to write bespoke poems, on any subject or any person. After a brief consultation they will write something special just for you. The poem will be presented on a card with matching envelope, an ideal gift for someone who has everything, or when ‘smellies’ simply won’t cut it!

Artist Alice Angus, who has been working with independent traders in Lancaster city centre, will be providing much needed refreshments for thirsty shoppers. Instead of a financial exchange for a brew and piece of cake, Alice asks for your memories about, and ideas for, the future and importance of independent shops in the city.

This will be like no other market you visit this festive season. As Queen Victoria and Prince Albert look on, and impromptu performances entertain you as you shop, you can pick up some arty bargains, something beautiful and unique for the office party, and raise a free brew to that all important festive cheer.
